What Is The Difference Between a Mobile Enhanced and a Mobile Friendly Website?

Back in February 2015 when Google first announced that their now famous ranking algorithm “mobilegeddon” would be rolled out on in April that same year there was a crazy scramble by website owners to bring code up to date and make sure their websites functioned correctly on multiple devices including mobile phones and tablets so as to avoid any Google penalties.

Now around 18 months on we look at how web design and development has transformed because of the increased smart phone and tablet use and what you should to expect from your mobile compliant website.

Responsive web design (RWD) is now industry standard and there should be no need to ask your designer whether your website will be mobile/tablet friendly or not and whilst there may still be a handle of unscrupulous amateur design agencies adding on extra money for the ‘privilege’ of having a responsive site most genuine designers simply see it as the way websites are designed nowadays.

There is however a very big difference between mobile friendly and mobile enhanced just like there is a big difference between having just a website and having a website that is search optimised and user friendly.

Many agencies will simply throw content into a responsive framework just to pass Google’s mobile friendly test and keep the client happy. I’ll be honest, I’ve seen some truly terrible so-called mobile friendly websites in the past 18 months, every one able to pass Google’s mobile friendly test yet doing little to enhanced a mobile users experience or bring in new business for the website owner.

A lot of the problem is with the high number of unskilled web design agencies using outdated frag and drop site building software or third party templates and simply not having the required coding skills to re-arrange and enhance the content for mobile users.

What works and looks good on a desktop will not necessarily work well and look good on a mobile phone due to the size and orientation of the screen. A good designer will view your new site on various devices and take into account your niche or type of business and will use the site as if they are a client or customer.

Do you want a client or customer to be able to call you simply by clicking a button? Then a clickable ‘call now’ button should be visible without scrolling as should your logo, business name and navigation menu. Is your text readable on a mobile? Having different font sizes and spacing on a mobile gives a much neater site and better user experience. Simple adjustments for the mobile phone user can make a big difference.…

Control The Power Via A Relay Board And Prevent Damaging Your Electronic Gadgets

A device that keeps going on and on with no interruptions whatsoever is rare indeed! In fact you may often be aghast at finding your work disrupted by sudden blurs or flashes on your screen (both TV and/or computers) before coming back to normal again. All this may be for a second or two but it spells doom for your electronic device. It is not wise to ignore such tell tale signs of power surges though for you may find your TV or computer damaged irrevocably. So do make an attempt to find a solution to the problem, if the occurrences are frequent. Investing in the one of these may help you to exert control, however. Check out the advantages of each and consider your requirement before choosing one over the other though. Read on for details…

An USB relay board will help you to control the power flowing in and out via a switch. The board heats up slowly whenever an excess of power is generated and a pull via electromagnetic waves is generated in order to control the excess power being sent to the device directly. This helps to prevent any sort of damage to the electronic device that is secured. Using this kind of USB board has become almost a norm particularly in large areas that use multiple electronic gadgets namely large offices, club houses, and entertainment hubs. You do not have to be worried about the cost of the board either for they are available in various sizes as well as capacities.

An Ethernet relay board, on the other hand, happens to be a network of various relay boards and controls that has the power to prevent an excessive power surge thereby safeguarding your gadgets effectively. It is actually a software that can be operated with the aid of your computer, lap top or a remote web based system. In short, it is a collection of relay boards that is both reliable and efficient to work with. You do not have to buy any separate software though and can log on to it by means of your web browser. It works perfectly well on a relay network and a wireless one.

Important Features To Look Out For Before Buying An IP Relay Board

Control of devices within your home or office by a switch is an easy way out. It is increasingly becoming popular as absolutely no one is ready to operate via long and tedious processes that requires hours and technical know how. The IP relay board happens to be a service that negates the use of phone and opts for the Internet instead.

Other reasons for purchasing web controlled relay includes:-

• Using it is extremely easy as you just have to communicate via a window similar to a chat window.

• No specific software is required. You can also download the software in order to enhance certain features, if you want to.

• The calls made with the aid of this relay …

3 Weird But True Internet Laws

There are all kinds of internet laws; Good ones, bad ones, and some that are just plain weird. The weird but true internet laws are what we are going to focus on today. These three laws come from all around the world, and can really make you shake your head in wonder at the sheer insanity of it all.

# 1: It is illegal in the State of Tennessee (USA) to post / send "distressing" images using the internet

Yes, you heard that correctly. As of mid-2011 it is illegal to "transmit or display an image" anywhere online that is reasonably (yes, likely) to "frighten, intimidate, or cause emotional distress" to anyone who sees it. Yes, anyone, regardless of whether or not the person in question was the target of the image. This takes the crown for most ridiculous internet laws ever made! Under this law, anyone, from anywhere in the world, can see an image, and no matter what that image is depicting, or if the uploader even had an ulterior motive for posting it, if the image can be traced back to its user, They could face up to a year in jail and over two-thousand dollars in fines.

# 2: It is illegal to own an "unregistered" modem in Burma

The Burmese government takes the internet very seriously … so much so that they have a stranglehold on internet access all through the country. Internet access is limited by means of hardware and software restrictions, ie unregistered modems. Visitors from outside of the country may bring a single laptop computer in with them, but it will have to be declared upon arrival, and it is safe to cover that every mouse click you make with it being being carefully watched.

# 3: In Uxbridge, Ontario it's illegal to have an internet connection faster than 56k!

This is a popular favorite online and can be validated in a number of places. This is one of those strange cases of severely out-dated laws that are still technically enforceable. It is comical to think of a place where it is illegal to have an internet connection that is faster than dial-up! Out of these three weird internet laws, this one has to win the award for most absurd.

And these are just the tip of the iceberg; There are many other strange but true internet laws on the books all around the world that make many people sit back and wonder what the heck these lawmakers were thinking when they wrote them and made them into law. …

How to Upload Files to the Internet

Most people have no problem downloading from the Internet. You usually click a link, then tell the browser where to store it. But how do you get a file from your computer up to the internet?

To get a file up to the internet, use FTP. That stands for File Transfer Protocol.

What is FTP?

FTP is actually a very simple process. The assembler language code for simple FTP is only a few lines long.

FTP software is more elaborate of course. It has error correction, login and security features, etc.

FTP Software

If you just want to upload a few files, you can use Windows Explorer to upload. It has some peculiarities. And it may take some getting used to. But once you get the feel of it, it is not too bad.

You can also use FTP software. You can find free FTP software. Filezilla is free, and does not come with adware or other such nonsense. And it works quite well.

There is CuteFTP which a lot of people like. It is very user friendly.

Then you have the professional FTP such as WS-FTP Pro. If you are going to upload a bunch of files, or very large files, you will want to spend a little money of a professional FTP software. At the time of this writing (December, 2008) Professional FTP software runs less than $100 USD.

Where to upload files to?

If you have a website, you can upload your files there.

If you want to share photos with people, you may not even need FTP software. You can find websites like Photobucket that have FTP capability built in to their site. You get what you pay for, though. Photobucket has its limits.

You can also buy “hosting”. You may also want to buy a domain name. If you just want to upload photos or other stuff to share with your friends, you can find a cheap hosting plan. You’ll almost certainly want to buy a domain name. Domain names run about $20 per year or less.

How to upload the files.

Once you have a place to upload to, regardless of which method of uploading you choose, you will need certain information. Below is a list of information you will need for almost any FTP connection. Your host may have a few more things you’ll need to enter.

  • The FTP host: This can be an IP address (An IP address looks like 123.45.678.90) or a domain name. Sometimes preceded with “ftp.” A common FTP host may look like: ftp.somewebsite.com
  • Starting or Home Folder: Your host will have to let you know this. Some common starting folders for websites are /public_html, /wwwroot, /httpdocs… There are several more. Note: You will probably not enter any leading or trailing forward slashes (/) in your FTP configuration.
  • Passive or Active FTP? Try Passive FTP first if you are not sure. It is the most common kind.
  • Username and password: Self-explanatory. Don’t be surprised if your username looks like

Recommended Software for Arena Management

When there is a little over a month left to enter the data for a thousand plus cattle penning teams into a fickle spread sheet software program that was built by good intentioned volunteers; the last thing anyone should be doing is looking for replacement software. However, as any event/entry secretary or producer knows this is sometimes the lifeline that is needed to get the job done.

The preparation of all of the necessary data combined with balancing a three-quarter of a million dollar show in the six weeks prior to its start should have been enough to do. Throwing in a new piece of software to learn and master would be considered ludicrous to say the least. The producers deemed it to be a necessity in view of the history of inconsistencies in the program currently in use.

With a three-year old recommendation in hand and very little back ground checking, Arena Management Software became the chosen lifeline. The software was purchased, loaded onto the computers, played with for a day or so and then our team went to work. The KCI support group was there, day and night, to help with the learning curve and any snags that presented themselves. Our team quickly realized that the new user-friendly software program we had taken a chance on was going to be our ongoing choice for future events. The show was a success. The producers and contestants were happy. All was good in our world!

There have been a lot of years pass by since those short six weeks when our group became acquainted with the Arena Management Software. The program still provides a user-friendly format that has the talent to produce minimal data to realms of reports. From rodeo to cattle penning events the product continues to amaze our team with its ability to perform in and out of the arena.…

Benefits of Hiring an Digital Marketing Agency for Promoting Your Business Online

Online business has hit an all-time high globally, as major and minor companies are creating their own websites and trying to cater to the Internet public. Marketing online is vastly different from offline marketing as the rules and regulations of attracting consumers differ hugely. This is where a digital marketing agency comes in and ensures that online marketing, from creation of websites to ensuring that they excel in search engine rankings, is available to clients as a whole package. Without the help of a digital marketing agency, it is not possible for companies to enter the online market and emerge successful.

The primary benefit of hiring a digital marketing agency is that these agencies are experienced and understand the online world of marketing. Since there are major differences between the online world and the offline world of marketing, gathering professional help for the better performance of a website is highly recommended. Digital marketing agencies have experts on their board who understand what a particular client website contains and how it can be marketed digitally. From keyword heavy content to social media marketing, all options are available and it is up to these agencies to implement these options as per their understanding.

Search engine optimization is the biggest benefit of hiring a digital marketing agency. Marketing online serves no purpose unless people regularly visit a company’s website and go through its features and products. Competition in the online market today is mostly about securing high rankings in search engines. Securing high rankings in search engines automatically translates to popularity of the website as well as increase in consumer awareness. A digital marketing agency is well aware of all this and hence can be trusted with the responsibility to increase a website’s search engine rankings. They know how to go about it and whether they should take a content related approach or publicize the site via social media, is up to them.

A digital marketing agency also understand that in today’s age of flashy and tech-heavy websites, a company can never achieve the desired search engine rankings unless is website is up to the mark. A digital marketing agency also often acts as a web designing organization and designs the websites for its clients. It knows that depending on the content, how a website is to be designed so that what people are looking for in the site can be easily found. From the home page to the page dealing with the features of the company’s products to the page about the history of the company, all are available on the website. It is up to the digital marketing agency to put together these pieces in a manner that will be appealing to regular and new visitors of the website.

Since constant presence on the social media is highly necessary for a company to be successful in online marketing today, an internet marketing company ensures that they are able to provide full social media marketing strategies. It is important not only to …

The 3 Main Principles of Object Oriented Programming – How to Program With Java

Object Oriented Programming (or OOP) is actually classified by three main principles.

1) Encapsulation

2) Inheritance

3) Polymorphism

These appear to be frightening terms but are actually fairly easy principles to grasp. In order to figure out how to program with java, you’ll need to understand these principles. So let’s consider our first main concept of OOP, encapsulation. Encapsulation just means we want to limit the access that some other pieces of code have to this particular object. So, to illustrate, if you have a Person object, and this Person object has a first and last name as attributes. In the event another chunk of code attempts to modify your Person object’s first name to be say “Frank3”, you could take note of what the first name is trying to be set to, and remove any digits so that we are simply left with “Frank”. Without encapsulation, we will not have the ability to prevent “silly programmers” from modifying the values of our variables to something which wouldn’t seem sensible, or worse, break the application. Seem sensible?

The second concept of OOP, and a essential principle if you wish to learn how to program with Java, is Inheritance. This specific concept refers to a super class (or parent class) and a sub-class (or child class) and the simple fact that a child class acquires each of the attributes of its parent. You can think of it in terms of a real world circumstance, like a real parent and child. A child will probably inherit certain traits from his or her parents, like say, eye colour or hair colour. Allow us to imagine yet another example in terms of programming, say we have super class “Vehicle” and sub-classes “Car” and “Motorcycle”. A “Vehicle” possesses tires, therefore through inheritance so would a “Car” and a “Motorcycle”, however a “Car” has doors, and a “Motorcycle” does not. So it wouldn’t be accurate to state that a “Vehicle” has doors, as that declaration would be inaccurate. So you can see how we could determine all the aspects that are similar regarding a “Car” and a “Motorcycle” and thus identify them inside of the “Vehicle” super class.

The 3rd concept of OOP is Polymorphism. This specific concept appears to be one of the most frightening, but I’m able to explain it in simple terms. Polymorphism means that an object (i.e. Animal) can take on several forms while your program is operating. Let’s imagine you have designed an Animal class and defined the method “Speak”. You then asked three of your buddies to develop kinds of animals and have them implement the “Speak” method. You won’t know what sort of animals your friends create, or how their Animals will speak, unless you actually hear those animals speak. This is very comparable to how Java addresses this issue. It’s called dynamic method binding, which simply means, Java won’t understand how the actual Animal speaks until runtime. So maybe your friends have created a Dog, Cat and Snake. …
