Running Gear Review – Nike Plus Vs Garmin Forerunner 205-305 GPS

As a gadget and tech junkie, it was to my good fortune that my initiation into the world of distance running rough coincided with the appearance on the market of several new high-tech running gadgets: the Garmin Forerunner 205 and 305, and the Nike + system . I have used both the Garmin Forerunner 205 and Nike + for greater than 6 months each, and what follows is a review and comparison of my experiences with them.

The Nike + System
Back in 2007, I was just beginning my life as a runner, and I was looking for tools to help me progress. The Garmin Forerunner and Nike + systems both had instant appeal to my techie side, though I was initially hesitant to invest the several hundred dollars (at the time) needed to buy a Forerunner. I was also swept up in the excitation surrounding the introduction of the Nike + system, and my first pair of "real" running shoes were Nike + ready. Since I owned an Ipod Nano, and had shoes that could accommodate the little Nike + foot pod accelerometer internally, I decided to give Nike + a try. In the interest of full disclosure, I'll say at the outset that I no longer use the Nike +. However, that does not necessarily mean that I would not recommend it to anyone since it does have its benefits and uses. The Nike + certainly helped my running in those early days, and the motivation provided by the on-line Nike + challenges was great. I liked being able to gauge my pace, track distance, and record my runs on-line. But for a perfectionist like myself, the Nike + has some major drawbacks.

The most serious problem I had with the Nike + was that it was only really accurate if I ran at the same steady pace on every run, and stuck to more-or-less flat ground. Any deviation from the pace you calibrate it at messes up both the pacing data as well as the distance recording for your run, and at times I found these measurements to be quite far off. Now, for many runners this is not a big deal, but if you like to mix up your training and include things like interviews, tempo runs, and long, slow runs, the Nike + comes up way short. Furthermore, for me as a road racer, tenths of a mile and accurate pacing data matter a lot, so these shortcomings presented some major problems. That being said, I'm glad that I used it, and it did help a lot when I first started out. Even after I upgraded to the Garmin Forerunner 205, I did still continue to use Nike + for treadmill runs (this probably goes without saying, but GPS does not work on a treadmill). The Nike + recordings on a treadmill are accurate enough, and in my case are more accurate than the readout of my treadmill's own data console (it has never worked …

Wireless Photo Printer

A wireless photo printer is great for families that have both wireless connection and a lot of memories to print out! I know for a fact that in my family a lot of pictures are wasted because simply getting them printed out was too much hassle. It is lazy and it's something I know my parents do regret, but with a printer that can print perfect photos and do it all wire free there's no excuse not to a photo book brimming with treasured memories.

A wireless photo printer is exactly what it sounds like, it's a printer that printers photo-quality pictures. Unlike regular desktop printers however it does not require a cable running to it from the printer, it can connect to your home wireless network and stay connected as long as it's on. When it's off and you want to turn it on most printers will automatically connect to the pre set network for ease of use. This means that anyone in the house that's connected to the wireless network can print photos and pictures incredibly easily.

There are actually some cameras now which can actually connect to the home wireless network too, so if you have the appropriate camera all you literally need to do is hit the print button and everything else is taken care of. As you can imagine for many people this is incredibly handy, and even if you do not have one, it's much less hassle and it's a lot easier to upload the pictures from the camera to the computer and then press print – as opposed to having to go out to the shops to get the pictures developed.

You may expect this type of a gadget to be unreasonably priced, but you can buy them from 80-250 dollars depending on what you want and the specifications of the product. Although they are obviously more expensive than most printers they're still quite reasonably priced, and you can get a decent mid range product for around 125 dollars – it's a decent sum of money but I would not say it's anywhere near the extortionate prices you pay for some gadgets nowdays.

If you are looking for a wireless printer I'd recommend Hewlett Packard for some really great products, they have good quality products at reasonable prices. It's also worth checking out online prices because you can almost always get this type of gadget cheaper online than on the high street. …

What Is Cloud Computing and Why You Should Use Cloud Computing

The Basics.

As businesses expand, they begin to experience some really difficult and expensive information technology (IT) challenges. Maintenance of hardware and software facilities can be a pain in the neck with traditional business computing systems. Cloud technologies and services present a smart, user-friendly solution. It’s also cheaper than traditional systems and increases the productivity and workflow of the business.

Cloud computing, by definition, is technology that makes use of the internet and servers centralized in remote data centers to store and maintain data and applications. So, Cloud technology makes computing more efficient by centralizing the storage of data, processing, and bandwidth.

Cloud services and products also allow users to make use of applications and software without installing the application on their personal computers or mobile devices. Users can access their personal files and documents by using any computer or device with internet access. The costs in effort and money spent on maintaining an in-house IT infrastructure is are gradually being replaced with Cloud-based infrastructure. While Cloud-based services are perfect for large enterprises, they’ve also proven ideal for small and medium-sized businesses.

Private Cloud or Public Cloud

Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)- Examples of SaaS include SalesForce, Microsoft Office 365, Dropbox, Gmail, and so on. With these services, just login with your credentials and get full access to the application and your previously stored information. With SaaS services, you can access your information anytime, anywhere, as long as you have internet access.

Private Cloud-The term “Cloud computing” or “the Cloud” also includes the utilization of outsourced hosting environments for remote data and file storage. Primarily, there are two cloud hosting scenarios that should be considered. These are shared, virtual servers, or dedicated, private Cloud servers. A private Cloud consists of servers that are dedicated to your company and data. Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services are the largest providers of Cloud hosting solutions.

Why You Should Use the Cloud.

Money savings-Cloud computing saves you substantial amount of money, the cost of Cloud computing is much more flexible than traditional methods. If there is need to pay for any service, you only need to pay for the services that you are using.

Disaster Recovery-With Cloud computing, it’s very easy to recover any file as long as they are backed up on the Cloud. So, if your physical devices malfunction, or are lost or stolen, your data is still safe and easily recoverable.

Work anywhere-Cloud computing enables you to access your files from anywhere as long as you’re connected to the internet. Many Cloud services also offer mobile apps so you can have access to your files irrespective of the device you are using.

Reduce Hardware-The use of Cloud computing reduces the amount of hardware used and the size of data centers. Some organizations eliminate physical data storage completely by operating their business totally on the Cloud.

Improved Collaboration- Cloud computing improves collaboration by allowing groups to meet virtually. You can view and edit shared documents and material with controlled access. This ability reduces the …

Other than that, if the computer has a RAM with specifications that are not compatible with the programs it is expected to run, its operation will be slowed down and it would almost crawl. When choosing a computer, you need to ensure that its hardware is not outdated, otherwise you’ll have to upgrade it in order to be able to use the intended program.

You must take certain basic precautions while handling the hardware of computers. The most essential precaution is to ensure that the power supply to your computer is switched off, else it could cause an electric shock. Then, before you touch any part within the computer, ensure that you are not carrying any electric charge by connecting to a grounded piece of metal, or you may procure an anti-static mat or wrist band available in the market. While inspecting the hardware components, you should look for broken or damaged component, as these are most likely the reasons for the computer malfunction. If a component doesn’t fit in the slot, you are probably trying to fit it in the incorrect slot.

Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) is now a major industrial disease affecting millions of people around the world. RSI includes conditions such as carpel tunnel syndrome, tenosynovitis and tendinitis – often collectively referred to as upper limb disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, occupational overuse syndrome (OOS), computer related injuries or cumulative trauma disorders, or CTD. Often the posotion of workstations and the design of the PC and accessories can affect how our health and safety.

1. Workstation Ergonomics

A well designed workstation is essential to maintaining good posture and reducing the risk of lower back pain and other computer related injuries.

2. Ergonomic Keyboards and Mice

There are quite a few ergonomically designed keyboards and mice available. The Microsoft Natural Keyboard is one example. This keyboard splits the keys into two panels – one for each hand, and angles each panel so that the hands sit naturally on the keyboard, rather than requiring them to be twisted into an unnatural position which is the case with normal keyboards. Many mice are now designed to fit neatly into either hand, and can often have a scrolling wheel, which can make scrolling through documents easier and less stressful than using scroll bars.

These ergonomic devices are generally more expensive than standard designs, but can be well worth the investment.

3. Ergonomic Use of Keyboards and Mice

The computer mouse was originally designed to make using a computer easier – it is much easier to point at a picture and click than to learn a relatively complicated series of keystrokes. However, research has shown that using a mouse is a significant cause of repetitive strain injury. Especially if the mouse is located at the same level and to the side of the keyboard – it’s usual location. This requires extending your arm which introduces significant tensions and stresses in your arm, shoulder and neck.

The best position for your mouse is on a raised platform slightly above the numeric keypad on your computer. Also, if you reduce the speed of the mouse and the number of clicks you have to make you can greatly reduce the muscle tension in your arm and hand. Additionally, you can swap the primary and secondary mouse buttons (the left and right buttons), to change the mouse from being right handed to left handed. Using your left hand – or right hand if you are left handed – can take some getting used to, but can be very helpful if you are suffering from any aches and pains in one hand. Regularly alternating between left and right hands can also give your arms and hands a rest, thus minimizing the risk of developing any RSI condition. You can swap the mouse buttons using the Mouse applet in the Windows Control Panel – or directly from the Stress Buster context menu – with fewer mouse clicks and/or key strokes.

To reduce the mouse speed, open the Mouse applet in the Windows Control Panel, select the tab Pointer Options and move the pointer …

Purchasing Computers

I am looking for new computers for a graphics company. There are many features that I will be evaluating, like memory, and storage space, and much more. There are a variety of price levels that I have been given to evaluate. I am going to start at the low end of each computer manufacturer first and go to the highest level. I am going to compare all of the features of a couple of manufacturers on each level. They will also have advantages and disadvantages to each system that I will discuss.

The first models of computers will cost less than one thousand dollars. The model of this computer is HP Pavilion Elite e9250t and a Dell Studio XPS 8000. One of the downsides to this computer is it comes with Windows 7, which is a new platform. This operating system may have to be downgraded for more security. I may be able to negotiate with either company to install Windows XP on all of these systems for better reliability and security. One of the disadvantages with Dell is they only offer a one year warranty while HP offers a two year. Although, this service would probably only be used for hardware breakdowns because of the computer knowledge already within the company. The processors are both the same i5 processor with great speeds. While the graphics cards are both High-definition quality, which is very good for a company producing logos, the hard drive vary quite a bit. HP offers a free upgrade from the 650 gigabyte to a 750 gigabyte and Dell is only offering a 500 gigabyte hard drive. This makes a big difference when stocking graphics on the hard drive because they can take up a lot of space. Especially, when you are working with business logos – they want quality work. The HP computer also offers 6 Gigabytes worth of memory and Dell only offers 3 Gigabytes. This is a huge difference in the amount of memory these systems offer. I would want to have more memory when it comes to working with graphics. Well, you are probably wandering the exact prices on both machines. They are neck and neck pretty much. The HP priced at $ 999.98 and the Dell came in a little cheaper at $ 979. Then you are probably wandering if this includes shipping. Well, we got lucky because shipping is free. Even though HP is more eXPensive, it would be better to have more memory for this company.

The next systems I will be evaluating will be bit more expensive, but have more features. The system will cost in between $ 1000 to $ 1750. I will be sticking with the same two manufacturers, Dell and HP. The model of HP computer is e9280t and the Dell is the same model with a few upgrades. The upgrades I decided to make will make a big difference for this company. The HP computer has a faster processor by .20 Gigahertz and they both …
